Hong Kong Perfume Workshop | Beginner's DIY Guide

First time joining a perfume workshop in Hong Kong? Different classes offer different experiences: some focus on smelling fragrances, while others let you test, blend and take home your own scent. Before booking, compare how much hands-on time you get, your fragrance choices, workshop size, location and finished perfume volume.

1. What Happens During a Perfume Workshop?

Participants generally learn about fragrance families, try different scents with blotter strips and experiment with personal combinations. A good workshop allows enough time to compare blends rather than simply following a fixed recipe.

2. Five Things to Look for

  • Hands-on blending: Check that you can select and mix your own fragrances.
  • Enough time: An approximately 90-minute experience allows time for exploring options.
  • What's included: Confirm whether materials, tools, instruction, a bottle and your take-home perfume are included.
  • Personalisation: Ask about printing photos or names and including preserved flowers.
  • Location and class size: Confirm the address, capacity, separate equipment and reservation arrangements.

3. How to Choose Your First Scent

If you enjoy clean, gentle scents, try tea notes and soft musk. For bright energy, explore citrus and fruits. Woody and amber notes are often warmer and deeper; florals offer another direction. Test small groups of fragrances, make notes and choose based on your own taste.

4. PerfumeTalk's Tsim Sha Tsui Workshop

Address: Room 1208, 12/F, Beverley Commercial Centre, 87–105 Chatham Road South, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong (appointments only).

Usual sessions: 12:00, 14:00, 16:00 and 18:00, subject to availability.

View the official PerfumeTalk workshop page.

5. Is It Suitable for Couples and Friends?

Yes. You can share an activity while creating entirely different scents, comparing impressions and discovering what you each enjoy.

6. What Should I Prepare?

  • Confirm the date, time and number of participants before payment.
  • Submit artwork one day in advance if you want personalised bottle printing.
  • Think of scents you enjoy, but no previous experience is needed.
  • Allow the full 90 minutes to relax and explore.
